IN MEMORIAM

My Ranger was born on December 26, 1992, a buff & white parti who looked  so much like my Cocker, Buffy, who lived to almost 14 years of age, I knew they must be related.  Through a dog genealogist, I found they were third cousins, five times removed!  Ranger and I were connected by a bond so strong, nothing could break it.  He celebrated seven birthdays.  His seventh
was special because I had sensed my Ranger was in trouble and his vet  discovered a large cancerous tumor on his kidney.  Dr. Faircloth saved his life, and Ranger enjoyed another birthday.  There was no sign of metastasis!
He was strong, happy and healthy.  But in April, I noticed a difference in  his breathing when he slept, and something red-colored in his eye.  The cancer was back; destroying his eye and leaving tumors in a lung.  He was a good candidate for chemo. and his body tolerated the IVs and injections like it was a simple vaccination.  His bloodwork constantly showed the cancer was
not winning this battle.  Ranger would bounce back from the side effects each time.  His eye was removed, but he acted like he never missed it.  Just when
we knew we were on the road to recovery, the seizures came.  He had 19 in all, and I held him and talked him through every one.  With sedation, Dr. Faircloth stopped the seizures and Ranger was peacefully sleeping at the clinic when he took his last breath with his doctor just one step away.  It
was totally unexpected.  Ranger fought so hard to live and it is hard for me
to understand why he wasn't rewarded with a victory over the cancer.  He gave me so much love, and I thanked God everyday for "one more day" with my baby-dog.  The last line of a popular song says more eloquently than I can
how much Ranger gave of himself and how much I needed him in my life
...."once there was a darkness, a deep and endless night. You gave me everything you had...oh, you gave me light!"  Ranger was my light.
I love you, baby-boy!     Becky Adams
