CHOOSING THE STUD DOG
Whether you own a male or not the same criteria should be followed.
    1.  Will the breeding of this male and female produce the type of puppies I want?
     2.  Do they carry the same faults?
Do research on what faults are common in the breed.  Ask the breeder of your female what faults are in the lines.  All dogs carry around genetic flaws.  Some very minor and some debilitating.  Investigate.
If the breeders says there are none, reevaluate the bitch
( and the breeder ).  See if you can find siblings to her and if there had been any genetic problems with them.
Some dogs can be carriers of a genetic problems , and those  problems can be carried down the lines until the carrier is bred to another carrier, you won't know you have the problem until it makes itself known.
Ask the stud dog owner the same questions.
You want to try to make sure that they share no faults in common.
