The Loss Of The Mother
There is a number of reasons that this can happen but it is not necessary to cover these here just that it does happen.
 a.  Make sure to keep the puppies warm.  I like to use a cardboard box with enough room in there to keep the puppies somewhat together.  I put a towel in the box and place a rather thick one underneath the box so it helps keep the bottom of the box warm.
 b.  I place a light on them.  I use a clip on light with a regular 60w bulb.  I make sure this high enough off them as to not burn them.  To see if it is placed right, put our hand in the box for a few minutes and if it feels just right for you it will okay for them.  I usually put a light towel, like a dish towel, around the top to keep drafts off the puppies.  KEEP checking the temperature to make sure it does not get to HOT for the puppies.
 c.  For the first few days, I give the puppies just sweetened water.  The third day I start milk formula.  I continue to give them yogurt every day.
        1.  sweetened water - 2 tablespoons of boiled water to 1 teaspoon of white corn syrup(any brand).  This is to keep the puppies hydrated and provide energy. ( in lieu of white corn syrup you can use plain white sugar
BUT it must be boiled in the water first or the puppy can't digest it )
I feed them on the same schedule as outlined above.  Every two (2) hours for the first 48 hours than every three for the next three days and than go to four (4) hours.  I keep to this time frame for the next week.  After that  week I feed them four times a day if they are doing okay.
d.  The third day I go to milk.  There is a number of products on the market that you can use.  Powdered formula is a real pain to mix so go liquid if you can.   I MAKE MY OWN.
        1.  milk formula - 1 can of evaporated milk(any brand) to one third can of boiled water.  I add one (1) tablespoon of white corn syrup to the mixture for energy.
With this mixture, I have raised individual puppies and/or several litters on this milk.reeding or linebreeding
