Puppies allergic to mother's milk.
This is usually a female that has had more than one litter of puppies by the same stud dog or stud dogs that have the same blood type but different from the mother's.
The typical sign of milk allergy is the largest most vigorous puppy dies for no apparent reason. ( usually the first night ) Followed by the next largest, etc. and the possibility of the other puppies losing ground no matter how much they nurse.
In this circumstance you need to take the puppies way from the mother and supplement them until three days have passed.

It is not actually an allergy to mom's milk but mom producing antibodies to the male's blood type that she was exposed to during previous deliveries.  It is in the colostrum.  The antibodies cause the red blood cells to clump together and do not allow the blood flow through the capularies to the internal organs.

If this is happening to you I would suggest try breeding to a closely related Stud dog by inbreeding or linebreeding
