**COCKER SPANIEL PUPPY MILK FORMULAS**
There are a number of formulas a person can make instead of the powdered, almost unmixable ones that can be purchased, or the expensive liquid mixtures that can be found at any veterinarian's office or pet store. Most of the time when you discover that you need to feed a puppy or all the puppies is in the middle of the night and nothing is open. You can keep some of the ingredients on hand just to play it safe. You never know when you will need replacement formulas. I will be adding to these pages as I come across more of them.

Energy Formula This formula can be used for new borns up to about two weeks
works best for the first week of puppy's life, when bitches milk would normally be mostly sugar
for any puppy that needs an energy boost
try not to use this as the only nutritional source as it provides energy and liquids only!
recommend adding a dollop nutrical (or similar) and yogurt if you must use for a prolonged period

Hydrolyzed sugar solution
Two tablespoons of boiled water
one teaspoon of white corn syrup
let cool to feeding temperature before using
(not absolutely necessary to boil water sanitation recommendation only)

Alternate (no white corn syrup)
(substitute common white sugar for corn syrup)
one teaspoon white sugar
Two tablespoons of water
boil together for a couple of minutes (must boil together to hydrolyze, so formula can be absorbed )
let cool to feeding temperature before using

Formula One

The first one is a very simple one that almost everyone will have these ingredients on hand.

1 can of evaporated milk (any brand)

1/3 can of water

1 tablespoon white corn syrup (any brand)

1 tablespoon of plain unsweetened yogurt (blend this in until smooth)

Cow's Milk Formula #2

This is very similar to the formula that is previous to this one.The big difference is the type of liquid added to the milk and the addition of an egg yolk.

1 can evaporate milk
using the empty milk can add 1/2 can of pedialite
(this can be bought in the baby department of the grocery store)
1 tablespoon of white corn syrup
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon of yogurt
Blend very well with the yolk, yogurt so the mixture will go through
the nurser, whether a bottle, glove or feeding tube

Goat Milk Formula

Here is another formula for puppy milk made with goat's milk.
Goat's milk is better for puppy formulas because the fat molecules are
smaller than in cow's milk and therefore easier for a puppy to digest.

1 can condensed goat milk with enough water to equal 24 ounces
1 tablespoon corn oil
1 tablespoon white corn syrup
2 tablespoons yogurt
2 to 3 drops of liquid baby vitamins
